WANA (Jan 03) – In response to the continued detention of Mr. Mohammad Abedini, an Iranian citizen, by Italy, the Italian Ambassador in Tehran was summoned today by the Director-General of Western Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The arrest of Abedini is an illegal act carried out at the request of the U.S. government, in line with its proven political and hostile intentions to take Iranian citizens, hostage, worldwide by imposing the extraterritorial application of its domestic laws.

 

Following the detention of an Italian citizen for violating Iranian laws, Italian Foreign Minister Tajani announced that the Iranian Ambassador in Rome had been summoned regarding the detention of the Italian citizen in Iran.

 

The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance had previously stated regarding the reason for the detention of the Italian woman in Iran:
Ms Cecilia Sala, an Italian citizen who travelled to Iran on a journalist visa on December 13, 2024, was detained on December 19, 2024, on charges of violating the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
